Among many successful actions, Le Grelle fought to safeguard the villages of Berendrecht, Lillo and Zandvliet, located in the Polders surrounding Antwerp, when threatened with absorption by the harbour authorities, and saved the Reigersbos, an area that shelters heron nests.

“For the enlightened choices he made, the tenacity he showed and the successes he attained during the many years he devoted to safeguarding the city of Antwerp’s heritage and threatened monuments.”
