St. Jean d’Angle Castle in Charente-Maritime

This is the winner of a Diploma.

The restoration of the moated castle ruins, dating back to 1047, to create a centre for historic cultural animation. The castle originally protected 6000 hectares of salt marsh and withstood some 30 sieges until the 17th century.

Quality and authenticity were paramount in the choice of materials, builders and techniques, while aiming to create comfortable living accommodations. The owner’s ambition is to give the 18th century barn a cultural role, using it for conferences, concerts and exhibitions before undertaking the reconstruction.
