Eglise Saint Julien l’Hospitalier-Saint Blaise in Longsols

The restoration of this remarkable example of 15th century wooden church architecture in the Champagne region not only safeguarded an important building, but also contributed to the region’s identity and image. By removing a lowered ceiling and exposing the detailing of the wooden supporting structure, the atmosphere of the church’s interior was spectacularly revived. Great effort was put in retaining the patina of the exposed wood and great care was given to the restoration of the church’s collection of art works.

The church again serves its religious purpose alongside being used for concerts and exhibitions. The project is highly appreciated for the outstanding restoration of both the exterior and interior of this great example of vernacular architecture and for respectfully retaining and restoring the building’s authentic character.
