Förderkreis Alte Kirchen Berlin-Brandenburg
This is the winner of a Diploma.
The nominated group, founded in 1990, is a major force in the protection and restoration of neglected churches in rural areas of the Federal State of Brandenburg.
The group has helped to found and develop local associations for the preservation of over 100 churches, therefore promoting the development of civil society with conferences, exhibitions, PR campaigns and a scheme for open churches. It also campaigned to reduce VAT on restoration and repair of historic buildings, and to establish a Monuments Watch in Germany similar to the Monumentenwacht in the Netherlands and Flanders.
“For its dedicated service to protecting, restoring and finding new uses for endangered rural churches in eastern Germany”
