Trafalgar Square in London

This is the winner of a Diploma.

The restoration of London’s physical and metaphoric heart, returning it to the people of London for their use and enjoyment.

Trafalgar Square, London UK

Vehicular traffic was rerouted around the square and additional stairways were added to the (now pedestrian) raised level in front of the National Gallery, improving pedestrian circulation. An elevator and cafés were installed below this raised area, pedestrian areas were resurfaced and infrastructure like railings were renewed.

“For the imaginative and robust solution to the removal of traffic from this symbolic square, thus enabling its use and enjoyment by the many visitors it attracts.”
