Copenhagen Airport – Vilhelm Lauritzen Terminal
This is the winner of a Medal.
The restoration of the 1939 terminal, one of the most significant examples of European Modernism. The building has been relocated and preserved to bring back (almost) its original form which had been lost through the years under extensions.
The original components were registered, numbered and then dismantled. After a successful move, the challenging reconstruction and restoration process followed. THe original sketches, drawings and photographs were carefully studied to ensure everything corresponded as closely as possible to the original colours and materials. It is used for administration, state visits, VIP receptions and other special events.
“For the extraordinary preservation of a gem of modernist architecture and one of the most outstanding airport terminals from 1939.”
